Orthodontic braces are offered as a treatment for straightening teeth, commonly for young children aged between 7-14 years. Metal wires are attached to the front surfaces of the teeth and gradually tightened over time, applying gentle pressure to the teeth and encouraging them to adjust into a straighter position.
The time the braces need to be in place for depends on how much straightening of the teeth is needed; our team will discuss this in full once the initial examination has been done.
To arrange an appointment with us, or if you have questions and want to find out more, please feel free to contact the practice.
You will need to wear a retainer once the braces are removed to ensure teeth stay in their new, straightened position. This allows time for bone and gums to stabilise around the teeth.
How long you will need to wear the retainers for is individual to each patient; however, unlike braces, they can be moved in and out of the mouth as required.
