Dental Inlays and Onlays are alternatives to filling a cavity in a tooth;
An Inlay is a filling using a solid substance which is fitted to a cavity in a tooth and cemented into place
An Onlay is the same as an inlay, except that it extends to replace a cusp and is used for larger cavities; this is similar to a crown which completely covers all surfaces of a tooth
These are stronger than traditional fillings and can also be an alternative to crowns. There are also more colours available with inlays and onlays, making it easier to match the exact colour of your existing teeth. Both Inlays and Onlays are available in various materials such as porcelain, gold or a composite and can greatly increase the strength of your tooth. Inlays and Onlays generally require two procedures; first, your dentist will remove the decayed area of the tooth and make an impression. When complete, the inlay or onlay will be fitted and bonded to the tooth. At Kincorth Dental we ensure all of our Inlay and Onlay procedures are administered with the upmost care and attention to ensure the best possible results for all of our patients.
