Fissure sealants are plastic coatings that are painted on to the grooves of the back teeth. These coatings form a protective layer that prevents food and bacteria becoming stuck in these grooves, which would cause tooth decay.
Fissure Sealants generally last for many years; however we recommend you organise regular check-ups with your dentist to make sure the seal stays in tact and doesn’t wear away over time. In some cases the sealant may need to be added to or replaced to prevent any decay starting underneath it.
